Cupidon - the closed box

What it is

A first date always stalls in the same place: safe questions, safe answers, and nobody dares cross the line. Cupidon is a deck that makes the first move for both of you.

Every card is a question - answered honestly - or a dare, done or swapped for a shot. The cards come in three heat levels, so the night can stay playful and flirty, or go all the way - only when you both want to.

The problem

  • Conversation that won't move - job-interview questions on a date
  • No way to get closer - going from laughing to touching is awkward
  • Existing games - either too tame, or crude from the first card

The solution

  • Three heat levels - warm-up, fire and hot; you move up together
  • Questions and dares in turn - talk, then do something about it
  • You can always pass - on any card, for a shot. No pressure
  • Shots and jokers - 7 cards you drink, 2 you keep for the right moment

The deck

Every Cupidon card laid out on the table

Three heat levels

Every card carries three hearts. Warm-up breaks the ice - what you noticed first, a selfie together, a staring contest. Fire brings you closer - a kiss, a massage, a whisper. Hot is 18+ - fantasies, limits and dares you don't do in public.

One card from each heat level

The card

Type and level at the top, the question or dare in the middle, and the number - large, translucent and grainy - rising from the bottom of the frame and cut by it, with an offset pink outline that gives it depth. Every card is worded for whoever draws it.

Shots and jokers

Seven shot cards change the pace - drink together, from your date's hand, or whoever looks away first. The two jokers let a player run the night - invent a dare, or pick a card from any level.

The box

A 31 mm tuck box in the cards' language: the double frame, pink lightning and the cupid at the centre. One side says who it is for; the back explains how to play, with a QR; the other side lists what is inside - 60 questions and dares, 7 shots and 2 jokers.

Brand

A cupid with a pink stripe across his eyes - love is blind, and the game takes the filters off. Deep black, a white frame in the style of old playing cards, and one magenta that does all the work.

Decisions

01

  • Heat rises in steps - three levels instead of one deck, so it works for a first date and for a couple of years.

02

  • There is always a way out - any card can be swapped for a shot. That is what lets the dares be bold.

03

  • Short, direct copy - one sentence per card, in the language of a bar, not a booklet.

04

  • One colour - the whole card hierarchy is built from one pink on black, so the deck reads as one even spread across a table.
